Facelift: Rhytidectomy

A Facelift, also known as a rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure designed to alter the features of facial aging and restore a more youthful cheek, chin, and neck contour. Indications for a facelift include:

  • Loss of skin elasticity of the face and neck.
  • Loss of muscle tone of the face and neck.
  • Desire to correct jowls and loose skin in the neck.
  • Deep wrinkles between the nose and mouth.
  • Excess fat in the neck.

A facelift will improve the most visible signs of aging by removing excess fat, tightening the underlying muscles and redraping and tightening the skin of your face and neck. There are a number of different surgical techniques and approaches available and the choice of procedure/s for a given patient depends upon the patient's anatomy, goals and Dr. Elmaraghy's judgment. A facelift may be combined with other procedures such as:

  • Browlift
  • Eyelid surgery
  • Chin augmentation
  • Nose reshaping.
  • Injectable Fillers

The surgery is generally performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure. The surgery requires between 4 and 6 hours. The majority of the swelling and discoloration will subside by 10 to 14 days postoperative. The final results of a facelift procedure are evident by 6 to 12 weeks, with continued improvement for several months.
